Maple and I, along with a small group from Meetup, set out on an adventure deep into the foothills for an after-work hike. When I say “deep,” I mean it! The drive took nearly 90 minutes from home—worth every mile since it was a new destination, adding one more spot to my list as I continue to explore the state we now call home.

We chose the Eagle's View Trail Loop, and it was no joke. The trail kicked off with a steep climb: we gained over 1,000 feet of elevation in the first mile alone! I’m not ashamed to admit I grumbled a bit, especially with Maple strapped to my back. She may only weigh five pounds, but every ounce felt heavier as the incline grew steeper. Despite that, Maple was a champ, handling her longest hike yet—two and a half hours—with ease. And the best part? No treats were needed! She was so engrossed by the surroundings that she didn’t even meow for her favorite lickable comfort food.
The challenge was real, but the view at the top was worth every step. The scenery felt refreshingly unique compared to other trails in the foothills, and the sense of accomplishment was unmatched.
