After our disappointing outing yesterday in Cherry Creek, I wasn’t ready to commit to anything outside until the weather cooled down. Sure, I could leave earlier, but my mornings are tied up with other tasks, and by the time I’m ready to go, it’s already in the high 80s or low 90s. I didn’t want to take any more risks with the heat. But I needed to head to Lowe’s to price-check a few items, and I figured bringing Maple along would be okay since we’d be inside, and they have a very generous pet policy.

Maple got a lot of attention! Quite a few people were bold enough to come up to us and ask if they could say hello. One of the things I love about living in Colorado is how conscious people are about asking permission, likely thanks to the large dog-owner population here. I never said no—Maple can always use the socializing experience.
Dogs don’t typically look up, so they mostly ignored her while she watched like a hawk. I don’t usually like interrupting people, but a few owners approached me first, and I asked if we could introduce our pets to each other. The standout was a beautiful husky—so calm and gentle. They booped noses a couple of times and seemed fascinated with each other. I ended up chatting with the husky’s owner for at least 30 minutes, and it was clear that neither Maple nor the husky wanted to part ways.
Another fun conversation was with one of the employees. He wanted to say hi to Maple and regaled me with stories of other pets people have brought into Lowe’s: cats, parrots, a lizard, and even a chicken! Why? Why a chicken? But then again, maybe people think the same thing about me, so who am I to judge?
I don’t think I even bought anything after walking around for three hours. Do you ever do that? What’s the strangest animal you’ve seen someone bring somewhere? Let me know in the comments!
